Delta College Commencement Ceremony plagued by technical difficulties

The SJDC Commencement Ceremony for the class of 2021 was so poorly handled that an in-person ceremony is now in the works for June.

Delta College graduates were expected to have a virtual commencement ceremony at 10:00am on May 15, 2021. According to The Collegian, a student-run newspaper at SJDC, the virtual graduation ceremony started twenty minutes later than the scheduled time. Once the event was under way, a few names were repeated over other graduates, and some graduates were skipped all together.

The event was eventually stopped by the responsible party, Full Measure Education. According to San Joaquin Delta College Board of Trustees documents, SJDC Trustees contracted Full Measure Education to run the virtual graduation ceremony for a sum of $13,625.

“We apologize for the errors in the Presentation of Graduates. We will be working to fix the errors ASAP. We will be ending the livestream now,”

The San Joaquin Delta College Facebook page posted an apology to the Class of 2021 later the same day.

Apologies are not enough for the technical errors that marred today’s virtual Commencement ceremony. This was not the graduation you deserved. We are proud of your accomplishments, and we know the hard work and dedication you have demonstrated to achieve your educational goal.

To properly honor and acknowledge your achievement, we will be offering an in-person Commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 5.

We will host a commencement ceremony that is worthy of your tremendous achievements.

Again, we apologize to you, your families, and your loved ones for today’s technical errors.
